January
Foothill Animal Hospital is proud to feature “Isabella” Bonin as our January “Pet of the Month.” “Isabella” is a 3 year-old Bichon Frise mix and has been a wonderful patient of ours since July of 2010. A few weeks ago “Isabella’s” owners began to notice a change in her “bathroom” habits. She was only able to urinate in small amounts and was trying to go more frequently. When urination began to seem painful and traces of blood became visible, “Isabella’s” owners got very concerned and brought her in immediately for treatment. As we were unable to obtain a urine sample on the day of her appointment, Dr. Putnam decided to treat her symptomatically and sent home antibiotics until she could come back for a urinalysis.
Later that week “Isabella” made it in for testing and we were able to determine she was suffering from Bladder or Urinary stones; A condition that is extremely painful and often treated by performing a Cystotomy, (surgical removal of the stones). “Isabella’s” owners and Dr. Reagan decided that this procedure was the best course of action and Dr. Reagan performed the surgery later that day. He found 3 medium sized stones and 10-12 smaller stones in her tiny bladder.
It has been a couple weeks since surgery and even though she will need to come in for regular lab
work, “Isabella” has recovered nicely. Thank you to “Isabella” for being such a great patient, and
thank you to her owners for being such great “parents”!
